Job description
The Operations Manager will manage the day-to-day functions of the depot, ensuring that customer service levels are met by monitoring and motivating staff to achieve KPI’s through customer service and logistics. Monitoring performance in the warehouse and customer service teams to ensure Company standards, procedures and policies are adhered to.
Maintain a safe and healthy work environment for all employees, including compliance to all Health, Safety and Environmental regulations and guidelines.
Responsible for leading workforce planning and staffing levels to include training, and management of the warehouse and customer service teams, supporting performance and ability to manage employee relations issues in conjunction with support from the HR Manager. Maintaining strict adherence to payroll budget, planning hours to achieve daily goals whilst effectively managing fluctuating levels of work.
The candidate will have high level of demonstrable experience and knowledge of management in a distribution / logistics environment, be motivated, enthusiastic with experience of delivering high levels of customer service in a wholesale distribution environment, leading through a period of significant change.
The specific activities are the management of our warehouse in Rotterdam, Netherlands. The operational team comprises approximately 25 warehouse operatives lead by a Warehouse Manager and a customer service team of 6 lead by a Customer Service Manager. You will manage the team while also ensuring that all daily activities within this team are carried out correctly and on time. This is a position that requires visual management and incorporates the customer service function.
We are looking for a person who will evaluate processes to identify best practice whilst aligning with the Battery Operational team. Strong management experience and coaching of employees is essential, whilst driving change management.
Fluency in English, both verbal and written communication is essential for this role as reporting through matrix structure in the UK.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The Operations Manager will be responsible for the development and execution of the Veloris operations as part of a European function that supports the wider group. Additionally, the Operations Manager will provide leadership and guidance for the logistics team who are accountable for the logistics activities in the business. The key focus will be on improving logistics within the businesses through strong co-ordination with the Commercial, Operations, Procurement and Finance & Performance teams but without any compromise on areas of health and safety, legislative requirements, and security.
A primary responsibility is to ensure logistics provides the business with minimum cost and maximum value to meet inbound and outbound objectives. The Operations Manager will also provide direction and oversight and drive the performance management and talent planning while creating a team environment that engages associates.
SECONDARY HEADING
- Lead the depot warehouse team and customer service team members.
- Develop and deliver the strategy, objectives and priorities for the distribution and logistics function and ensure effective execution of this to support the company’s strategic goals and growth plan.
- Planning and management of all financial, capital and other expenses related to logistics, forecasting, negotiations for freight and other relevant services.
- Oversee productions planning and shipping to ensure OTIF (on time in full).
- Provide leadership to the logistics team which will include driving performance management, talent planning and compensation processes in conjunction with HR.
- Develop a highly performing team with the appropriate skills and knowledge to deliver value to the business. As the needs are identified, hire, coach and develop the team building on talent and ensuring appropriate succession plans.
- Analyse current methods, and collaboratively improve or implement new processes, workflows, and technology solutions to maximize efficiency. Ensure individual and team goals are achieved and that key performance metrics for each functional area are established, monitored, and improved.
- Drive improvements of key functional metrics and ongoing reductions in functional operating costs in alignment with efficiency performance targets.
- Champion the practice of the Company culture and holding others accountable for achieving results in a manner consistent with Company values.
- Effectively plan and agree schedules, motivate the team to meet challenging timelines and service level agreements.
- Liaise internally with many stakeholders including EHS, Commercial, Finance and HR to ensure that internal and external customers’ needs are met.
- Support the organization relating to quality, environmental and EH&S programs.
Qualifications
- A Degree or equivalent demonstrable related experience is required.
- Experience of successful distribution and logistics management at a significant national (or international) company, division, or business unit scale and with multiple operational locations and a material presence in the industrial goods/ heavy duty sector.
- HR Management skills.
- Health and Safety operational management skills.
- Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with diverse groups of people in a global matrix organisation.
- Fluent English speaking is essential to develop and communicate direction and operational strategy for the logistics function, both verbally and in writing, to internal and external stakeholders.
- Ability to influence others and manage competing internal stakeholder priorities.
- Ability to develop and execute strategic plans and successfully manage multiple priorities.
- Demonstrated ability to establish expectations from logistics associates, fairly address performance issues and hold others accountable.
- Experience in change management and digital transformation is essential.
- Be highly organised, with the ability to prioritise effectively both independently and as a member of a high-performance team.
Physical Requirements & Experience
- Familiarity with technologies supporting Logistics management including ERP and WMS.
- Lean Management implementation.
- Experience working within scope of ADR including export requirements.
- High level Microsoft Office skills, ERP experience.
- Established knowledge of national and regional logistics supply market
- Excellent written and spoken communication skills.
- Established project management skills in a local, national, and regional context working with a range of internal and external stakeholders.
